Well it's easy, they are very similar to social bookmarking sites. They are based on the very well known Digg's script! These are taken to the large public, and each individual or very small company, that whishes to have a personal Bookmark site, can very easily install these Pligg script and create one of their own! So we are talking of exactly Social Bookmarking sites, but owned only by individuals and small companies! Some of the many pligg sites owners do a great job in marketing them through all kinds of methods and this way they become good social bookmarking sites. Of course that they don't raise to the level of digg or poppeler but the catch is in their number.
Also, similar to social bookamrking service, this linking strategy is great because it allows you to build deep links(links for inner pages) very easy. Google loves deep links because, it means that the site in question hasn’t only a good home page but it also has great sub pages that are worth visiting.
